If two people will drive the car, both must be declared. The fact that the second driver is a spouse, colleague or family member does not automatically authorize him to drive a rental car.
Adding it before confirmation allows documents to be checked and protection to be applied correctly. Omission can create contractual problems and affect the status of an incident.
Who is the main driver
The main driver is the person in whose name the booking is organized and who meets the confirmed conditions. He must be present at the pick-up, with the license and the original ID.
Don't formally enroll a person just because they are of a more convenient age if someone else will actually be driving.
Who is the additional driver
It is any other person authorized by reservation and contract to drive the car. It must present:
- valid permit;
- identity card or passport;
- correct data about age and experience;
- attendance at the process established for authorization.
Documents are checked beforehand and presented in original upon collection.
Same age rules apply
Yes. An additional driver is not exempt. The rule of thumb for choosing full protections is a minimum of 23 years and 3 years of driving.
For those under 23, a minimum of 2 years of experience is required and restrictions apply. Drivers under 23 and over 69 are not eligible for zero deposit.
Each driver's profile needs to be assessed, not just the booking holder's.
How much it costs
Premium Plus includes an additional driver for free. For the other protections, the additional driver is charged. The applicable value must be retrieved from the booking system or confirmed by the agent, not hardcoded into an item.
Weigh the cost versus benefit of sharing the drive, especially on a long drive.
Why it's worth it on long drives
A second driver can reduce fatigue and allow alternate driving. Plan breaks even if there are two of you; authorizing an additional person does not eliminate the need for rest.
For a multi-city tour, include the driver at the booking stage and check the appropriate mileage limit.
Can one only drive "a few kilometers"
Not if the person is not authorized. Short distance, a parking lot, or the fact that the primary driver is tired does not make unauthorized driving an exception.

What happens in the event of an incident
If the authorized driver is involved in an incident and is not injured, the first step is to notify Wise Cars. If the situation is serious, contact the competent authorities first and then the team immediately.
dif an unregistered person is behind the wheel, the application of protection and contractual obligations may be affected.
Additional driver and payment
The person authorized to drive should not automatically be confused with the person paying. If the payment will be made by someone else, clarify beforehand. Wise Cars accepts debit card, credit card and bank transfer, not cash.
Traveling to another country
Both drivers must be declared and the documents for exiting Romania must be prepared beforehand. Wise Cars allows travel exclusively in EU member states, with approval and power of attorney requested at least 5 working days in advance.
Mistakes to avoid
- Adding the driver only verbally after departure.
- Sending documents to a person who will not be present.
- The assumption that your spouse or partner is automatically covered.
- Omission of real age.
- Using a photo instead of the original license.
- Choosing a protection without checking the cost of the additional driver.
