Autumn can mean pleasant temperatures at noon and rain, fog or cold in the morning. The choice of car should start from the route and conditions, not from the idea that an SUV is mandatory or that any small model is insufficient.
A well-chosen car provides the necessary space and helps you drive comfortably, but it does not replace adjusting your speed and checking the weather.
Describes the actual route
Note if you will be driving:
- only in the city;
- between the airport and accommodation;
- on the highway;
- on national roads;
- in mountainous areas;
- through several cities;
- in another EU state.
The right class for Bucharest is not automatically the best for a long circuit through the center of the country.
Compact for the city
A compact car is easy to park and efficient for one or two people. Check the trunk if you are coming with large trollers.
Small size does not mean lack of safety, and large size does not guarantee control in the rain. Car condition, tires and driving are essential.
Minivan or SUV for luggage
A station wagon can offer very good space without the size of an SUV. The SUV may facilitate access and driving position, but consumes and takes up more space.
Choose by passengers and luggage. Don't book a big car just for the image, and don't cram your luggage into one that's too small for a marginal economy.
Automatic or manual
The automatic transmission can be comfortable in traffic and on a tiring itinerary. The manual may offer other fleet options. Choose what you drive safely and familiarly.
Don't use the trip to learn a transmission in a difficult environment.
Visibility and check-in
Check with the agent:
- the lights;
- wipers;
- the windshield;
- the mirrors;
- the tires;
- the defogging system;
- the fuel;
- any existing observations.
Don't leave if an essential function isn't clear. Ask the agent to show you the orders.
Winter tires do not depend on a fixed date
In Romania, the obligation is related to driving on a road covered with snow, ice or ice, not a universal calendar day. Late fall can bring such conditions to mountainous areas.

Kilometers and low light
Protections can include 100 km/day, 200 km/day or unlimited. Calculate the distance and avoid a schedule that forces you to drive for hours after dark.
A sufficient limit does not mean that you have to use every kilometer.
The weather can change the route
Check weather and road information from official sources. Don't enter a closed road or use a forest route just because the app shows it as a shortcut.
