Documents are checked before Wise Cars impounds the car. The aim is not to complicate the booking, but to confirm identity, right to drive and eligibility for the selected car and protection.
Two main documents are required for most bookings: your driver's license and an ID. Special situations, such as traveling to another EU country, may require additional documents prepared by the company.
Driver's license
Send a clear picture of your valid license. We need to be able to check name, categories, date obtained and expiration date.
When picking up, the permit is presented in the original. A phone photo, copy or provisional proof should not be assumed as an accepted substitute. If the document is damaged or the information is not legible, clarify the situation before the trip.
For licenses issued in the EU, the harmonized categories are recognized in the member states, but the license must be valid. Identity card or passport
The act confirms the identity and date of birth. You can use your identity card or passport, depending on the situation and the valid documents you have.
The name must match the license and the booking dates. If there are legitimate differences, for example after a name change, notify the team and provide the explanation before confirmation.
When picking up you need the original. Don't send an expired document or hide the edges or essential information in the photo.
Why we ask for documents before confirmation
Wise Cars checks:
- the identity of the driver;
- date of birth;
- date of obtaining the permit;
- license category;
- validity of documents;
- name concordance;
- eligibility for the selected protection.
After verification we can block the car for the confirmed reservation. This step avoids the situation where a customer arrives at the pick-up and finds out that they do not meet the conditions.
Age and length of license
The Wise Cars general rule for total freedom in choosing protections is a minimum of 23 years and at least 3 years of driving license.
A driver under the age of 23 must have a minimum of 2 years experience and cannot rent without a deposit. The same zero deposit unavailability applies to drivers over 69.
Do not use the date of issue of the last card if the permit shows separately the date of first issue for category B. Enter the relevant date exactly as it appears on the document.
Additional driver's documents
Anyone driving must be declared and verified. The driver addsntar presents the license and ID and must meet the applicable rules.
Premium Plus includes an additional driver for free. For the other protections, the service is charged. An unregistered person must not drive.
What happens if the pass expires during booking
The document must remain valid. If the expiration occurs before the return, notify the team in advance. It does not assume that the validity on the date of sending the photo is sufficient for the entire period.
Travel to another EU state
To leave Romania with a Wise Cars car, you need approval and the documents prepared by the company. Only EU member states are allowed. The request must be made at least 5 working days in advance and the fee for the power of attorney is EUR 75 and includes the related formalities.
In addition to your documents, keep the documents of the car received for the trip. Do not cross the border without confirmed approval.
How to photograph documents correctly
- Uses uniform light without reflections.
- Includes all document margins.
- Do not cover the data with your fingers.
- Avoid small or excessively compressed catches.
- Check readability before sending.
- Use the channel communicated by the team.
- Do not send additional documents that were not requested.

Errors delaying confirmation
- expired permit;
- cropped photo;
- name entered differently;
- the date of the permit filled in incorrectly;
- main driver who will not be present;
- omitting the additional driver;
- document sent, but not available in original upon collection.
Prepare your documents before you land
Don't leave the check for the time of the meeting. Send clear images as requested by the agent and keep the originals in your carry-on, not in a hard-to-reach hold.
