The mileage limit can change the actual cost of a rental more than a small difference in daily rate. A 100 km per day option may be sufficient for urban commuting, but unsuitable for a multi-city circuit. Unlimited miles can be useful for a long haul, but are not required on every booking.
At Wise Cars, limits can be 100 km/day, 200 km/day or unlimited, depending on the protection available and selected. The information must be taken from the reservation, not assumed by a general rule.
How to calculate a daily limit
If the booking is for 5 days and the protection includes 200 km/day, the total cap is calculated according to the conditions displayed for the period. Check in the booking if the limit is presented daily and how the total is treated.
Don't assume you have to drive exactly the same number of miles every day. Important is the method of calculation confirmed in the contract.
Estimate the full route
Collect:
- the road between the pick-up location and accommodation;
- daily trips;
- planned trips;
- the road to the return location;
- a margin for detours and schedule changes.
An estimate based only on the distance between two cities omits local travel. Add a realistic backup, not an exaggerated one.
When 100 km a day can be enough
This limit can work for an urban booking, short transfers or a schedule with few trips. For example, if you stay in the same city and only use the car for meetings, the total can stay comfortably under the cap.
But check the actual route. An unplanned trip to the airport or a nearby town can change the calculation.
When you choose 200 km per day
It is a more flexible option for regional trips, multi-city visits or a business schedule with daily trips. It can cover a moderate route without paying for an unlimited option you don't need.
It compares the total distance with the number of days and keeps allowance for traffic and alternative routes.
When unlimited miles are worth it
Consider the unlimited option if:
- you cross several regions;
- the itinerary can change;
- you have many meetings in different cities;
- you return the car to another location;
- you don't want to constantly watch the ceiling;
- the price difference is justified by the route.
"Unlimited" does not mean that the car can be used in any country or on any road. Contract rules, permitted states and normal use remain valid.
Kilometers and leaving the country
Even though the protection offers unlimited kilometers, you cannot cross the border without approval. Wise Cars allows travel exclusively in EU member states, with a minimum of 5 working days' notice and power of attorney. The fee is 75 EUR and includes the related formalitiesentities.
Mileage limit and external approval are two separate conditions.
What happens if you exceed the limit
The cost and calculation method must be checked in the booking conditions. We do not hardcode into an item a value that may differ by protection or may be updated.
Track your mileage during your trip and contact the team if the itinerary changes significantly. It's better to clear up ahead than to discover the overrun on the way back.
Mileage photo
Upon pickup, check and record the mileage with the agent. Repeat the check on return. A clear photo can supplement the handover documents, but does not replace the company's established process.
Don't just choose by the price of the protection
Cheaper protection may include fewer miles. For a long route, the potential cost of overtaking can wipe out the initial economy. Compare:
- the total price;
- the warehouse;
- liability;
- kilometers;
- the additional driver;
- the services included.
Planning example
For a 4-day reservation, write down each segment in a simple table: airport–hotel, meetings, excursion, hotel–return. If the estimated total is very close to the ceiling, choose an option with a better margin.
Calculate before you book
There is no universally "best" limit. There is a limit suitable for the route. Enter the period in the booking system, compare the cars in the fleet and check the displayed protections. For a return to another city, read also the one-way guide.
